Survey Take 2

The survey that we tried to make last week is not up to our high DCT standard. We need to try again so that we can get some relevent information. You are the people that are affected by living here so you can probably send a message on how Vitznau can be a better place to live. Let us try again. You can see the current survey at this link.

We will also discuss the final test in the second period. Be prepared to listen and take notes so that you are not suprised next week.

For Foundation

Getting started with MS Publisher. Here is the link to the Microsoft site that will tell you how to get started with Microsoft Publisher. The tutorial takes about 50 minutes. After the tutorial I would like you to create a calender for next term. Use the DCT logo and your name in the title fields. Make sure and indicate the start date and the ending date. Number the weeks. Dress it up almost anyway you like, afterall it is your calender. Email the assignment to me at s.black@dct.ch Make sure to name the document your name calender 1. If your name is in a foreign language on your email make sure and use your call name in the email it'sself and the file name.

If you have a headset with a microphone let me know. We will be using Gizmo project sometime this week. I will try to get the headsets to you tomorrow.

Zoomerang

Today we will make an online survey using Zoomerang. First, we will have a class meeting where I want everyones attention. Then we will split into 3 groups. One group will create the survey, one will make posters to advertise the survey and the other will design business card size handouts to pass out to the students. The theme of the survey is "Student perception of Vitznau"

Make a 3-D pie chart in Excel showing the preferences for chocolate in Vitznau. Make sure the wedges of the pie chart are labeled with the correct brand. Use vivid colors to represent the different brands. Refer to excel help if needed.

XP Tune Up

Alright you have brought your laptop to class. Now we will procede in a very logical order to improve the performance of your machine. The firrst part I will walk you through after that we will proceed to some of the following websites. PC Pitstop is an useful tool for tweaking your XP settings. You will need to be using Internet explorer. It does not support Firefox. Next stop is Crap Cleaner. Crap Cleaner has many benefits and will also take the place of some of the command line things we have done.
A few more helpful hints to speed things up can be found here, especially if you have an older machine.
Several other things can be done to keep XP running fast and strong. A quick Google Search reveals 1.7 million hits. At the top of the list is Tweak XP they have lots of helpful hints.

Regular maintainance of your XP machine will help to ensure that you stay productive and will lengthen your Laptop's life.
